Twenty-one Ways to Maintain or Lose your Favor (Part I)

Bible Verse: I Samuel 8:6-19

Introduction: It is a great honor and privilege to maintain our favor from the Lord, but we can lose favor from the Lord if we cannot treasure it.

Background:

  • The favors of God in Israel are lost because of their ungodly attitude.
In General:

  1. Don't keep your Word or Keep your Words
a. God expect honor and integrity (I Chron. 29:17)
b. When you make a commitment keep your word. "Your yes be yes and no be no"
(Mt. 5:37)

2. Don't do your part as a Creature or Do your part as a Creature

Example: A man who stops working because he knows the Lord will provide all of his
needs.

  • As a children of God we must do your part, so that God will bless us.

3. Have a Negative Attitude or Don't Have a Negative Attitude

a. The Bible tells us that a happy heart does us good like a medicine. (Prov.17:22)
b. For the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10)

Application:

  • If we don't want to lose our favor we should act as a Christian and we must live according to the will of God.

The Favor of Christ

Bible Readings: Luke 23 - 24

Introduction:

The Lord Jesus Christ is truly a great favor to every mankind especially to every Christian.
Anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Savior will receive great favor and eternal life.

I. CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS FOR OUR FAVOR (Luke 23)
a. Judgment to die. (Luke 12:13-25)
(He was judged without sin) Even King Herod and Pilate testified that he has no sin.

b. The crucifixion of the King. (Luke 23:26-49)
He was crucified without blemish and sin.

c. Christ statement on the cross.
1. Father forgives them for they do not know what they are doing. (Luke 23:24)
2. I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:43)

II. CHRIST AROSE FROM THE DEAD FOR OUR FAVOR. (Luke 24)
a. He arises from tomb to proclaim victory and to prove that He is the living God.

b. He appears to His disciples to prove that He is alive and to encourage them in ministry, and to mold their hearts to be strong in faith.

c. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the manifestation of His power and proof that He is the living and mighty God.
The favor of His resurrection is our assurance to receive eternal life and the guarantee that we have a powerful and living God.

Application:
If we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, truly we will enjoy His death and resurrection.

Forgiveness Brings Favor

Bible Reading: Mark 11:25-26

Introduction:

It is hard to forgive those people who hurt us, but God commanded us to forgive them. We believe that there is a great if we forgive them.

  • Everybody has a right to choose what to do in all situations we encountered.
  1. We can forgive those who hurts us or
  2. We can't forgive them.

  • But we cannot hide that every decision we make is a big part of our lives.
I. JOSEPH CHOOSE TO FORGIVE HIS BROTHERS (Genesis 37-45)
A. His brothers have hatred feelings to him because of jealousy (Gen. 37:4)
B. His brothers planned to kill him.
C. His brothers sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites at 20.
  • After what had happen, Joseph chose to forgive his brothers for the glory of God. And God gave Joseph a great favor in his lives.
II. JESUS CHRIST CHOOSE TO FORGIVE US (Luke 23:34)
A. God so loved the world. (John 3:16)
B. He made himself humble for the sake of His love. (Philippians 2:5-8)

  • But the world cannot response to His love
  • They choose to crucify Jesus and died on the cross.
  • Jesus has an authority to curse and to punish them but He choose to forgive them for the sake of His purpose, that is why God exalted Him to the highest places and gave Him the name that is above every name. (Philippians 2:9)

Application:

  • Do we really forgive those persons who hurt us?

Conclusion:

If we want to experience and enjoy the forgiveness of God, we need to forgive our brethren who hurt us. We cannot live a peaceful life if our hearts never learn to bestow forgiveness. Remember GOD FORGIVES US ON THE CROSS!

Miscellaneous Maxims

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
-
Proverbs 22:6

The child is to be initiated in the way of life from the earliest dawn of intelligence. Children understand more than they can express. As a temple newly built, and yet not profaned, is solemnly set apart to the Lord, so a child, by pious training, is dedicated as a temple of the Holy Spirit.

A great duty enjoined, particularly to those parents and instructors of children, in order to the propagating of wisdom, that it may not die with them. Train up children in the age of vanity, to keep them from the sins and snares of it in that learning age to prepare them for what they are for. Catechize them; initiate them; keep them under discipline. Train them as soldiers, who are taught to handle their arms, keep rank and observe the word of command. Train them up, not in the way they would go, but in the way they should go because their corrupt hearts would draw them aside. The way in which they will find caring and nourishing hands, a listening heart and a voice that gives instructions and blessings. Train up a child according as he is capable with a gentle hand, as nurses feed children, little and often.

A good reason for it, taken from the great advantage of this care and pains with children: When they grow up, when they grow old, it is to be hoped, they will not depart from it. Good impressions made upon them then will abide upon them all their days. Ordinarily the vessel retains the value with which it was first seasoned. Many indeed have departed from the good way in which they were trained up; Solomon himself did so. But early training may be a means of their recovering themselves, as it is supposed Solomon did. At least the parents will have the comfort of having done their duty and used the means.

Open our eyes, hearts and mind. Take the challenge designed for you. If children of today will be guided and trained accordingly, we will lessen the number of people who will be in prison when they grow old.

Children are gifts from God; they need our valued acceptance, favorable respect, unconditional love, proper guidance and fervent prayers.
